Massey North/ Totara Creek Open Space is a joint Auckland Council and NZ Retail Property Group town centre development project. The 24ha site is located adjacent to the Northwestern Motorway and WestCity shopping precinct in West Auckland.

Thomas were engaged in 2011 as Council’s representatives for the stream restoration element of the development. In the first phase of the project Thomas provided the riparian ecological assessment, Stream Ecological Valuations (SEV’s), and developed a riparian restoration programme for Totara Creek and associated tributaries on site.

Now in the implementation phase, our team project manage the stream restoration programme which includes developing weed control and planting plans, supervising contractors (for weed control, planting and plant maintenance), and coordinating and advising on ecological factors relating to the wider development programme. This involves collaboration with development engineers, project landscape architects, NZRPG representatives, Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and NZ Transport Agency.

Thomas will manage the stream restoration across the Totara Creek Open Space site over the 6 year project timespan until handover to Council in 2017.
