The Client:

Auckland Council – Community Facilities

The Site:

Western Reserve, Orewa

The Project:

Establishment of a fenced dog park within Western Reserve, which is strategically located along the Te Ara Tahuna cycleway/walkway, near existing facilities. The fully fenced park provides a safe environment for all dog types and sizes, incorporating different zones for low and high energy exercise, a range of sturdy elements, natural materials and planting. Large open grass areas retains the aesthetic of an open reserve, while allowing for informal games and running spaces. Planted mounds, agility obstacles, rocks and other natural features provide a range of engaging experiences and educational opportunities for all dog types.

The Process:
Thomas Consultants Ltd was engaged by Auckland Council to prepare a concept design to put to the local board.
Local board meeting took place end of October, with positive feedback.

Next stage is for Auckland Council project manager to undertake key stakeholder and community engagement. Then Thomas Consultants Ltd will prepare a final concept.

There is also a second dog park to be done, once Auckland Council find a suitable location.

The Value:

Our client was very happy with our proposal as the project seeks to move through to consultation in 2022. Barbara commented below on the project:

I have to say – this looks amazing. I think this is the first time I received a first concept that fully met the brief and looks exactly how I imagined it.:)  And it is very obvious you’ve reviewed all the material I sent you and have taken extra care to ensure you take not only the landscaping aspect into account but also the health & safety of the animals. The result looks stunning.
