Thomas Consultants is looking for an experienced Ecologist to join our team in the West Auckland office. The position presents an excellent opportunity to work within a busy, motivated team working on a variety of ecology projects for both residential and commercial clients.

We are currently looking for someone to join us on a part-time or contract basis, but this may turn into a permanent full-time role depending on the skills and situation of the right candidate.
- Client, internal and external specialists’ liaison.
- Site assessments.
- Prepare ecological, planting and restoration assessments and plans.
- Provide technical and ecological advice and reports.
- Undertake ecological monitoring.
- Supervise physical works contractors and support contracted and informal community groups relating to the implementation of the riparian weeding and planting.
- Other duties that may be required from time to time particularly those that may be of an environmental nature.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an individual with at least 3 years’ experience in ecology, with a tertiary qualification in biology or a related discipline, and a current NZ Driver’s License.
The ideal candidate will have outstanding oral and written communication, as well as negotiation skills and attention to detail and follow through. You must be capable of working as part of a team as well as autonomously, and be confident in providing pragmatic sound ecological advice.
Experience in preparing ecological assessments and restoration plans in a New Zealand context is essential, as is excellent native plant and weed identification skills. Resource management experience including preparation and/or review of ecological assessments submitted in support of consent applications would be advantageous. Expertise in a specialist ecology area is desirable but not essential. Competence in Microsoft Office is necessary.
