SEV stands for Stream Ecological Valuation, and it is a method for assessing the values of a stream based on some set ecological criteria. By looking at things like what is living in the stream, what trees are growing near the stream, what the bed of the stream is made of and what stream is like upstream, we are are able to give the stream a score between 0 and 1.
Under the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan some areas have been designated as “Significant Ecological Areas” or SEAs. These areas have been identified as meeting one of the 5 key ecologically important criteria.
