Thomas was approached by community organisation West Lynn Garden Society, to prepare a resource consent application for the development of a new function centre. The gardens are a local asset in New Lynn as they provide a beautiful, well maintained park for local residents; however at the time the existing building within the gardens was subpar as a facility.

To enable the Society to construct a new facility required a complex resource consent as it constituted a non-residential activity in a suburban area with many natural limitations. The Thomas planning team provided the planning expertise as well as project leadership, including engaging other professional disciplines internal and external to Thomas to create the necessary documentation for the resource consent application.

The consent was granted in 2013 and since then the centre has been constructed. This new building enables the West Lynn Gardens the capacity to host larger events such as weddings and will also be used as a community education facility.
